By better understanding the lived experiences of this population, Dr. Her research aims are to explore through personal narratives the lived experiences of adolescents and young adults who menstruate, understand the barriers and facilitators to adequate menstrual health and hygiene and explore the impact of shame and stigma that exists around menstruation. Her primary research interests are in merging creative and interdisciplinary practice through multimodal methods with scholarly production, while engaging, empowering, and elevating youth voices. Davies is passionate about advocating for adolescent health and social justice through patient care, education, and research. She completed her pediatric training at the Residency Program in Social Pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in The Bronx, New York, which provides pediatric medical training focused on the health of underserved urban children and adolescents in the context of the community.ĭr. Davies received her medical degree from The New York University School of Medicine. She recently completed her fellowship in Adolescent Medicine from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Shelby Davies is an Attending Physician in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Assistant Professor at the Perelman School of Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania. This is pivotal to reducing health disparities in communities and decreasing the recidivism of maladaptive behaviors. This room provides comfort and acceptance so persons can show their vulnerability, allowing for authentic conversations and open-flow information sharing, being the epicenter of educational seminars and panel discussions around normalizing menstrual cycles, health and hygiene, uterine care, proper usage of sustainable options and healthcare resources. The goal of the Breonna Taylor room is to create a space to escape the dangers of the world experienced by so many marginalized women and girls. in addition to supplying a monthly donation of 200 Diva Menstrual cups. The 2,500 square foot space is equipped with offices, a reception area, computer room, storage space for menstrual supplies and a "Breonna Taylor" Safe room, graciously sponsored by Diva Cares International Inc. At its core, the SPOT Period also provides access to clean water and operable toilets for women and girls that do not have reliable access to these basic amenities. “SPOT” (representing Safety, Programming, Optimal Transformation) functions as a safe welcoming space providing acceptance, understanding, education, period care, menstrual hygiene resources and aids the community at reaching its full potential. all through crowd funding efforts, to provide a safe space for marginalized women and girls. On February 20th, 2021, No More Secrets Mind Body Spirit Inc., proudly opened the nation's first menstrual hub, "The SPOT Period", located in Germantown Philadelphia, PA. In 2020 No More Secrets hand delivered over 1.8 million menstrual products to those in need and through the development of their "Period or Not Respect the Dot" and "#BlackGirlsBleed" End Period Poverty campaigns, they have successfully been able to provide free menstrual health resources, education, and advocacy for vulnerable populations. We independently deliver a 3-month supply of feminine hygiene products to the doorsteps of persons living in poverty or suffering from economic hardships, servicing approximately 250 individuals by distributing over 38,000 products weekly. Tristate area and only door to door personal feminine hygiene delivery service in the nation to persons in our direct area in addition to shipping nationwide. The organization independently created the only feminine hygiene bank in the Pa. has intentionally been addressing health disparities in communities who have historically been pushed to the margins. intentionally dismantles the myths, stigmas and misconceptions ingrained in our communities and is designed to elicit open communication, promote honest discussions and provide real life solutions.
